Schema Therapy Training Programme
Training Terms and Conditions
Please read these terms before booking. They summarise the main contractual conditions applying to courses, workshops, supervision-related training and educational events provided by Schema Therapy Systems. The full Terms and Conditions should be made available through a clearly visible link before payment is taken.
Important information before booking
Attendance at training does not guarantee eligibility for, or achievement of, ISST certification.
Participants are responsible for checking the current ISST eligibility and certification requirements that apply to them before booking, paying fees or commencing training.
Participants are responsible for maintaining any professional registration, indemnity insurance and supervision required for their role and jurisdiction.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, training is educational and does not constitute psychotherapy, clinical treatment, clinical supervision or consultation.
Trainers may modify, pause or discontinue experiential work, or withdraw a participant from an activity, where reasonably necessary to protect wellbeing, safety or the learning environment.
1. Eligibility and ISST certification
Some courses are designed to contribute towards International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) certification. Candidates in the UK and internationally must check the current ISST requirements, including qualification, professional registration or licensing, membership, curriculum, supervision, practice and assessment requirements, before booking or paying fees.
Schema Therapy Systems provides training but does not determine a candidate’s final eligibility for certification and cannot guarantee that certification will be awarded. Where a participant later discovers that they are ineligible, any refund will be governed by the cancellation terms below and by applicable consumer law.
2. Booking, payment and contract formation
A booking is accepted when Schema Therapy Systems issues written confirmation after receiving the required payment or agreeing an instalment arrangement. Course descriptions identify what is included in the fee. Participants must ensure that booking information is accurate.
3. Consumer cooling-off rights
Where an individual books online, by telephone or away from business premises as a consumer, they may have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days after the contract is made. No £10 administration deduction will be made from a refund required under that statutory right.
Where training is due to start within the cooling-off period, Schema Therapy Systems may ask the participant to make an express request for the service to begin. If the participant then cancels after delivery has started, Schema Therapy Systems may deduct a proportionate amount for services already supplied where the law permits. Statutory rights are not affected.
4. Participant cancellations and transfers
-
Cancellations made more than 14 calendar days before the training date: refund of fees paid, less a £10 administration charge representing reasonable processing costs, except where a full statutory refund is required.
-
Cancellations made 14 calendar days or fewer before the training date: no refund will normally be given, subject to statutory rights and the fairness of the charge in the circumstances.
-
A substitute participant or transfer to another date may be requested. Approval is at the reasonable discretion of Schema Therapy Systems and may depend on eligibility, availability and any costs already incurred.
-
Cancellation requests must be made in writing using the contact details on the website.
5. Cancellation, postponement and minimum numbers
Schema Therapy Systems may cancel, postpone or reschedule training where reasonably necessary, including because of trainer illness, insufficient participant numbers, venue or technology problems, severe weather or circumstances beyond reasonable control.
If Schema Therapy Systems cancels a course and does not provide it on an agreed alternative date, all course fees paid for that course will be returned in full. Participants may instead choose an available transfer. Liability for travel, accommodation, childcare, loss of earnings or other consequential costs is excluded only to the extent permitted by law; participants are advised to use flexible or refundable arrangements.
6. Force majeure and reasonable changes
Schema Therapy Systems is not responsible for delay or non-performance caused by events beyond reasonable control. Reasonable changes may be made to trainers, timetable, venue, content or delivery format, provided the overall educational purpose and quality are not materially reduced. If a material change gives a consumer a legal right to cancel, that right will be respected.
7. Professional registration and scope of practice
Attendance does not confer professional competence, registration, accreditation or the right to describe oneself as an ISST-certified Schema Therapist. Participants must work within their competence, qualifications, insurance, professional codes, supervision arrangements and applicable law.
8. Medical, psychological and experiential suitability
Schema Therapy training may include emotionally demanding discussion, imagery, chairwork, role-play and personal reflection. Participants are responsible for considering their readiness to take part and for informing the trainer of relevant adjustment needs. Training is not therapy. Participation may be modified or paused to protect safety and learning.
9. Confidentiality, AI and transcripts
Clinical examples must be appropriately anonymised. Participants must not share identifiable client, patient or third-party information during training or upload it to an artificial intelligence, transcription or note-taking system unless they have a lawful basis, any required consent, appropriate safeguards and compliance with professional and organisational policies.
AI-generated transcripts, notes or summaries must be checked by the participant for accuracy and clinical appropriateness. Participants may not use AI or other tools to reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit Schema Therapy Systems materials without written permission.
10. Photography, recording and intellectual property
Participants will be informed before photographs or recordings are made by Schema Therapy Systems and will be given a meaningful opportunity to decline participation. Participants must not record training without prior written permission. Materials are supplied for personal professional learning only and remain protected by intellectual property law.
11. Conduct, accessibility and certificates
Participants must behave respectfully and maintain confidentiality. Serious or repeated abusive, discriminatory, threatening or disruptive behaviour may result in removal from training following a proportionate process. Reasonable adjustments should be requested as early as possible. Certificates are issued only where stated attendance and completion requirements are met.
12. Complaints
Concerns should be raised promptly with the trainer where appropriate. Formal complaints should be submitted in writing within 28 days. Schema Therapy Systems aims to acknowledge complaints within five working days and provide a substantive response within twenty working days, or explain why more time is needed.
13. Data protection and website information
Personal data is processed in accordance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Schema Therapy Systems Privacy Notice. Website information is provided in good faith but may be updated. Course information is educational and is not legal, medical or clinical advice.
14. Governing law and full terms
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without depriving consumers living elsewhere in the UK or another country of mandatory protections that apply to them. Nothing in these terms limits liability where doing so would be unlawful or affects statutory consumer rights.
